To make these holiday dog treats even more festive, try using a Christmas tree, gingerbread man, or a candy cane-shaped cookie cutter. When baking, make sure all the ingredients you use are dog-friendly. Instead of regular all-purpose flour, use whole wheat flour. While all-purpose flour isn’t necessarily toxic to your furry friend, it doesn't have the nutritional value of whole wheat flour. When choosing which peanut butter to use, make sure to check out the ingredient list to ensure it is safe to include in this dog treat recipe. Do not use any peanut butter that has added sugars. Xylitol is especially toxic to dogs, so always double-check what is in your peanut butter. There are plenty of peanut butters made specifically for your dog that can be found on Amazon.
When it comes to pumpkin; luckily, our pumpkin powder is formulated specifically for dogs. This means you don’t have to worry about searching the grocery store for canned pumpkin that is safe for your dog. Our pumpkin powder is not only safe for dogs but also has many nutritional benefits. It is a great source of fiber for dogs. It is also shelf stable for up to 2 years, so you’ll be able to keep it on hand for future dog biscuit baking!
Now that you know all the extra precautions that come with choosing ingredients for homemade dog treats, Make sure to have fun with it while you're baking! Let your dog enjoy the Christmas cookie fun and give them a little taste test as you bake. (We all do it when we’re baking human cookies!).
These Christmas dog cookies are great to give your dog as a sweet treat for being a good girl or boy, or even adding to their Christmas or Christmas Eve dinner to make it festive! If you find yourself with more treats than you know what to do with, they could even be a great stocking stuffer or gift idea for a fellow dog lover! Find a cute bag to put the cookies in and tie it with some ribbon. A great Christmas goodie for someone who loves their dog just as much as you do! Baking with your pooch could also be a great opportunity to snap some holiday photos of your pup while ‘helping’ you cook. Or mostly just help you taste test!
Once you pop the cookies in the oven, you can start prepping the icing! To keep it healthy and safe for your dog, the icing has only 2 ingredients: Peanut butter and coconut oil. Again, make sure the peanut butter you are using is safe for dogs. Coconut oil is safe for dogs in moderation, so don’t let your dog eat too much of it while they ‘help’ you bake! Be creative when decorating and have fun!
We hope you enjoy baking these Christmas treats for your best furry friend! Happy Holidays!
